Speech and Language Therapist
Experienced Band 5 / 6

Hertfordshire and North London
£39,781 to £45,953 pro rata, DOE

Part time role: 1 day a week initially, rising to 3 days (if this works for you)
Potential to progress to full time.

Are you a Band 5/aspiring Band 6 SaLT, with experience of working with autistic young people? Perhaps you’re already working for one or two days a week in the NHS, or private practice, and are keen to extend your hours. Or you could be looking to work in different settings to help develop your career. If you’d like to join an innovative therapy team and enjoy flexibility, career progression and a competitive salary, we may have the ideal role for you. To start immediately.

Your opportunity

Initially, you’d join us for one day a week, working in a small, well-regarded alternative provision setting in west Hertfordshire. This nurturing school is focused on supporting children with autism and complex needs, providing a supportive education for children who struggle in mainstream school.

In a few months, there will be an opportunity to expand the role, adding two days a week in a similarly-focused setting in North London. Ultimately, we hope to extend this further to offer a full time position, if this is something you’d be keen to do.

At ACCESS, we build careers around our therapists’ interests, aspirations and life commitments. There’s never an obligation to increase your number of working days, but there are often opportunities to do so, as well as to work in different educational settings, and to carry out autism and ADHD assessments, as part of our growing independent service.

What we offer

You’ll benefit from a personalised career development path that includes one-to-one supervision, regular reviews, high quality training, and opportunities for progression within your role. You’ll also get as much support and autonomy in your day-to-day work as you need.

  • Competitive, NHS-benchmarked salary (plus full payment during school holidays).

  • Structured induction programme, including observation and shadowing opportunities.

  • Regular clinical supervision and mentoring.

  • Access to a range of resources and standardised assessments.

  • Support and encouragement to provide child-centred, evidence-based intervention, working with clients in a range of settings.

  • Opportunities to attend training courses to support your continuing professional development.

  • The opportunity to learn and practice an innovative approach to speech and language therapy in schools.

  • Potential to join our autism and ADHD assessment team, with ADOS-2 training.

  • Pension scheme.

Who we’re looking for

An experienced Band 5/aspiring Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist. You’ll need previous experience of working in schools and with autistic children. You should also be unflappable, highly adaptable, and a great communicator. Ideally, you’ll have a driving licence and access to a car, but this is not essential.

Who we are

At ACCESS Speech and Language Therapy, we specialise in connecting language with literacy and social skills, working with schools to help children achieve better outcomes, across the curriculum and in their future lives. It’s a proven approach, with measurable results, that we deliver in a flexible way to suit a school’s particular requirements. We also provide independent autism and ADHD assessments for children and adults.

“Working at ACCESS has helped me grow so much as a practitioner.”
